We have some amazing programming for you this year featuring performers from France and Canada, evening dances (bals), Balfolk music and dance workshops, lots of jamming, singing, food, and beautiful scenery.

D'une amitié entre quatre jeunes musiciens est né Bargainatt, un groupe de musique à danser qui a vu le jour début 2016 à Montpellier.
Le groupe fait ses premiers pas sur les marchés de l'Hérault et du Gard au début du printemps. Avec un chapeau et plein d'envie, c'est dans la rue que se déroulent les premières répétitions et que les musiciens font leurs armes. De cette riche expérience naît le nom du groupe. Tiré des mots anglais "Bargain" (marché) et "Hat" (chapeau).
Bargainatt est adopté à l'unanimité.
En mai 2016 lors du "bal des pas amoureux" à Avignon, le groupe découvre le monde du bal, et s'en passionne, pour ne plus jamais le quitter.

Bargainatt, a balfolk dance music group that emerged in early 2016 in Montpellier, was born out of a friendship between young musicians.
The group took its first steps in the markets of the Hérault and Gard regions in early spring. Wearing hats and full of enthusiasm, they held their first rehearsals in the street, honing their skills. From this rich experience came the group's name, derived from the English words "Bargain" and "Hat".
Bargainatt was unanimously adopted.
In May 2016, during the "bal des pas amoureux" in Avignon, the group discovered the world of balfolk, and became passionate about it, never to leave it again.

Naviguant entre les répertoires traditionnels du Centre-France et du Sud-Ouest, Léonie et Anaïs entremêlent le son de la cornemuse du Centre à celui du violon.
Chants à danser et musiques instrumentales se succèdent, créant un bal rafraîchissant et simplement généreux.

Navigating between the traditional repertoires of Central France and the Southwest, Léonie and Anaïs intertwine the sound of the Central French bagpipe with that of the violin.
Dance songs and instrumental music follow one another, creating a refreshing and simply generous dance party.

Malvenn est un trio de musique traditionnelle montréalais fondé en 2023, qui réunit Cécile Delage à la harpe celtique, Charlotte Layec aux clarinettes et McKinley James au violoncelle. Les trois musiciennes proposent une interprétation singulière et raffinée du répertoire de la musique de balfolk (bal de tradition européenne où sont dansées des danses populaires dites folk ou trad issues de collectages). Avec des compositions originales et des arrangements de thèmes issus du patrimoine breton, irlandais et québécois, Malvenn se démarque de façon significative dans le paysage du folklore au Québec. Le trio s’est produit dans des événements d’envergure comme le Grand Bal du Québec à Hatley (QC) ou le festival Chants de Vielles à Saint-Antoine-de-Richelieu (QC).

Malvenn is a traditional balfolk trio based in Montreal with harp, cello, and clarinet. Coming from traditional and classical music backgrounds, the three musicians of Malvenn offer a refined and unique interpretation of the balfolk repertoire. With original compositions and arrangements of tunes from Breton, Irish, and Québécois musical heritage, the trio is shaping a new sonic signature in Quebec’s folk music landscape.
Malvenn has performed at events around North America including the Grand Bal du Québec, the Flurry Festival, and the Chants de Vielles festival. They have also toured extensively in Quebec and Ontario. They will release an album in 2026.

Camille et Léon ont commencé à partager et jouer ensemble dès leur rencontre en 2011, dans les bœufs qui durent jusqu'à l'aube. Leur musique a grandi avec eux au fil des années. Également musiciens du groupe Bargainatt, ce qu'ils aiment partager en duo, c'est un pont qui relie des compositions contemporaines de diverses inspirations à une passion pour les musiques traditionnelles populaires du massif central. Avec une grande fraîcheur, ils passent d’une belle mazurka néo-folk à une bourrée auvergnate bien typée, d’un cercle circassien énergique à une scottish bien rythmée. Harmonie et cadence, le tout dans une dynamique qui fait danser autant les oreilles que les pieds.

Camille and Léon began to share tunes and play together since they met in 2011, in late-night jams that lasted until dawn. They are both also members of the band Bargainatt, and their duo music has grown with them over the years. As a duo, they like to bridge contemporary compositions of various inspirations to their passion for the popular traditional music of the central massif. With wonderfully new energy, they go from a beautiful neo-folk mazurka to a typical Auvergne bourrée, from an energetic Circassian circle to a well-paced Scottish. With dynamic harmony and cadence, their music makes both the ears and feet dance with joy!
